Parents are being warned they’re putting their children in danger by illegally using their phones while driving with research finding one in three use their phone with their kids in the car.

Associate professor from the Monash University accident research centre, Sjaan Koppel, says they wanted to look at parents engaging in phone use while driving.

“Specifically looking at parents driving their children, we wanted to look at the relationship of nomophobia … which is the fear of being without a mobile phone … and engaging in illegal mobile phone use,” she told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.
