England is questioning the controversial dismissal of batsman Jonny Bairstow after losing the second Ashes Test to Australia by 43 runs.

Bairstow was stumped by Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey when he walked out of his crease before the end of the over was called.

England captain Ben Stokes said he wouldn’t want to win in that manner, but English cricket commentator Mark Nicholas said the Aussies were “well within their rights”.

“I’m astounded at the outburst on the subject of what’s right or wrong,” he told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen, filling in for Ross and Russel.

MCC members at Lords were left fuming, some of them targeting the Australian players as they returned to the pavilion.

Three members have since been suspended as the prestigious club investigates allegations players were verbally abused and physically contacted.
