Two public health units to close leaving dozens jobless
Two public health units are set to close this week resulting in dozens of job losses and additional strain on the already struggling health system.
Professor in public health at the University of Melbourne, Rob Moodie, says the units at the Northern and Eastern Hospitals were set up during the pandemic to help with local capacity.
“Knowing what was going on in your local community was extremely important to manage a big problem like COVID, but for a whole range of other infectious diseases, and all the non-infectious ones, we really do need local capacity,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
