Commuters travelling onto the city from Melbourne’s west will feel the full impact of closures today.

Bus replacements on the Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown train lines started late on Friday night, and the state government has suggested people who can work from home should do so.

President of the Public Transport Users Association, Tony Morton, says organisation of substitute public transport services has declined, with services offered during major shutdowns a decade ago far outperforming those in place today.

“I can recall we had fleets of buses organised, we had special lanes marked out on the roads … we had masses of people at every station marshalling people … we’re not seeing that level of organisation with some of the recent closures,” he told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen, filling in for Ross and Russel.
