A food shelter run entirely by volunteers has shut down on the Rosebud foreshore due to abusive behaviour by “rough sleepers”.

The Vinnies Kitchen food charity and the Mornington Shire Council aimed to help solve the homeless problem by giving rough sleepers some food and a place to sleep.

Food coordinator at Vinnies Kitchen, Michael Scotts, says “the risk has become too bad” with one volunteer physically assaulted the other night, with Tom Elliott predicting this problem would arise one year ago on 3AW.
