Jimmy Bartel has reacted to the “staggering decision” of Brisbane Lions players Jack Gunston and Daniel Rich to step down from playing indefinitely.

Bartel said there have been more discussions between coach and players on selection in recent times.

“I think towards the tail end of my career, there’d be conversations with Chris Scott, when you finish your main training session it’d be ‘So this week or next week should we have a rest?’,” he told Sam McClure.
