Neil Mitchell has said what he thinks should happen in the fallout from independent Senator Lidia Thorpe accusing Senator David Van of sexual assault.

The 3AW Mornings host said Ms Thorpe “can act like a rat bag at times” but when she alleges sexual assault, “she can’t simply be dismissed”.

He believes the police should be called in and for the situation to be handled “cleanly, fairly, properly and quickly”.

Former independent Senator Rex Patrick, says the senate could conduct an inquiry with a majority vote, but with a sexual assault allegation, the senate will almost certainly leave it to the police.
