The COVID pandemic has undoubtedly contributed to the growing number of Australians quitting or changing jobs due to burnout, according to at least one professor.

There have been a number of high-profile cases of late, with Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, Sunrise host David Koch and Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan all admitting burnout had played a part in their reasons to step down from their roles.

Professor Leah Ruppanner, author of the Future of Work report, told 3AW Australians had definitely struggled to readjust to life after lockdown.

“People are pretty much finding that the work-life balance is difficult,” she said.

It’s resulted in workers becoming more picky.

Professor Ruppanner said employees were wanting more flexible options and would seek employment elsewhere, should those demands not be met.
