‘Incredibly dangerous’: New campaign against vaping launches today
A new ad campaign against vaping will be launched today to increase awareness and stop young people from vaping.
VicHealth CEO, Dr Sandro Demaio, told 3AW Breakfast young people are the single largest group who use vapes and held concerns the demographic were being targeted by the tobacco industry.
“The challenge also comes that they have flavours and they have cartoon characters on the box some are designed to be snuck into school, some can be attached to a school uniform,” Dr Demaio said.

Chief executive officer of the Cancer Council, Todd Harper AM, told Neil Mitchell one issue is companies don’t list what is in vape concentrates, and they can differ across different products.
“That’s the challenge we have because every vape is likely to be different, we don’t know … what chemicals are being used. What we do know is there are as many as 200 chemicals that have been found in these products,” he said.
Arsenic, benzine and heavy metals are just some of the chemicals that have been found.
