The federal government has settled a class action over PFAS contamination, the chemical in foam which firefighters use, to seven sites across the country today for $132.7 million to be paid out to 30,000 claimants.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Fire Rescue Victoria, Mick Tisbury, claimed the government are “finally taking responsibility for some of the damage that’s been caused in the past”.

Mr Tisbury believes chemical companies have known about the detrimental effects of PFAS since the ’70s and ’80s, and has been advocating for over a decade for “not only firefighter safety but also community safety”.
