What makes a great Melbourne pub? Great beer on tap, pub classics done perfectly and a ripping beer garden? Well, the Flying Duck has all that — and now you can bring your dog!
This week I checked out “parmas and pups” Tuesday. Our Kelpie puppy Harry was treated like a king. with a dog treat (actually multiple treats!), when we arrived for lunch and the staff were so welcoming. We sat in the glass atrium which was perfect on a chilly autumn day.
The Flying Duck has been renovated and has a great dining room and public bar and there’s also a proper beer garden for when the weather is a little warmer. We started with a woodfired wholemeal flatbread with black garlic, some sensational wood grilled shark bay scallops with herb butter and spicy fried chicken tenders — you could snack on these all day!
Our chicken parma, chips and salad was $20 and it was delicious. A thick juicy chicken breast (not processed) was topped with a tasty napoli sauce, ham and just the right amount of cheese. It was one of the best I’ve had in a long time.
The chicken schnitty with mustard slaw, herb butter and gravy was elite, the steak and mushroom sauce, also another winner.
The menu has all the great pub classics and plenty of options for the whole family.
Parents will love duck daycare – between 4-6pm kids eat free! The Flying Duck is a classic Melbourne pub that really does have something for everyone. Bring your dog.
Pro tip: There’s a special every day of the week – On Thursdays it’s half priced oysters ($2.50) and prosecco $6.
