Mayor of the Mornington Peninsula Council, Steve Holland, has defended the controversial tax hike of bins in the area.

Ratepayers will have to pay an extra $35 for weekly rubbish and fortnightly recycling pickups, with a poll by the Herald Sun showing 92 per cent of residents are against the increase.

Councillor Holland claimed “it’s not a profit making exercise” and Mornington Peninsula residents get “very good value for money”.
