CANCELLED: Drag queen story time event called off due to threats of violence
UPDATE: A drag queen story time event for kids has been cancelled after threats of violence were made against organisers and those attending.
Neo-Nazi and anti-fascist protesters were planning to clash at Oakleigh Library while the event took place on May 19.
Neil Mitchell called for the event to be cancelled on Thursday morning due to concerns for the kids attending.
“You’ve got kids between one and six in the middle of this. It can’t happen. It is a recipe for disaster,” he said.

Monash Council has since called it off.
Monash chief executive Dr Andi Diamond said the decision to cancel the event was made in consultation with Victoria Police.
“It is incredibly disappointing to have to cancel an event designed to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, but we were left with no choice after Victoria Police advised council of the risks,” Dr Diamond said.
