Liberal Senator Jane Hume, who is also the chair of the Cost of Living Committee, has called for more action from the Labor government to help tackle the cost of living crisis.

The committee have released an interim report, outlining how the Labor government doesn’t have a plan to tackle skyrocketing prices.

Senator Hume claimed it’s a “perpetuating problem” and stated how the “government’s policies are making the inflation situation worse”.

The report also states how energy prices, mortgages and grocery prices are much higher than usual, which is driving more Australians to seek assistance from the charitable sector.

“If families are making hard decisions about their budget, well the government has to do the same,” Senator Hume told Neil Mitchell.

It comes after the RBA hiked interest rates to 3.85 per cent yesterday, the 11th interest rate hike in a year.
