Lara Gilchrist was allegedly punched in the face while walking from Cranbourne Station to Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre at about 8am on Thursday.

“He, instead of walking past me, came at me and punched me in the face, and just kept walking,” she told Neil Mitchell.

Lara reported the violent, unprovoked attack to police, but their response has left her concerned.

“The best thing I got told I could do was a personal safety order against him, but that would just basically involve me calling the police every time I see him,” she said.

In a statement provided to Neil Mitchell, Victoria Police said a 38-year-old man of no fixed place of residence was arrested on Friday and has been charged with recklessly cause injury. He’s been remanded to face Frankston Magistrates’ Court on May 5.

“I’m pleased that’s happened and it will give Lara some peace … However he was arrested last Friday — she’s the victim and they still haven’t told her,” Neil Mitchell said.

“Part of the job of policing is … to deal with the public.”
