Tasmania looks set to finally get its own AFL team.

The Prime Minister is expected to announce up to $240 million in federal funding will be put into the project.

Sports journalist at WIN News Tasmania, Brent Costelloe, told Ross and Russel the location of the existing Bellerive Oval in Hobart isn’t central enough.

“It’s not close to the CBD and we’ve seen in Perth and Adelaide what a stadium in the CBD can do,” he said.

Mr Costelloe expects the Hobart team to join the AFL in 2028.
