A concussion expert says there is no doubt some footballers need “saving from themselves” when it comes to head knocks, detailing his concerns about the AFL’s concussion policy.

It comes with the issue firmly in the spotlight again after Paddy McCartin suffered another worrying head knock, sparking renewed calls for him to retire.

Professor Alan Pearce told 3AW Football there was an aspect of the AFL’s concussion policy that still “really concerned” him and fellow experts.
