A loophole that allows children to drink alcohol in Victorian pubs could soon be closed.

Under current laws, parents or guardians can buy alcohol for their underage children, so long as they’re eating a meal. 

Victoria is the only state in Australia that allows it.

But health groups are trying to have the loophole closed.

They’ve made submissions to a review into the state’s Liquor Licensing laws – calling for the provision to be ended.

Lobbyists have warned that alcohol at a young age – and parental supply – are linked to drinking problems later in life.
