Tom Elliott has lashed out at Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers after $800,000 of taxpayer money was spent to build a new office for Minister Richard Marles, which he didn’t want.

The development frustrated the 3AW Drive host, who implored not only Jim Chalmers, but every state treasurer to think before spending taxpayer money.

“How can the Federal Treasurer come out and say ‘I haven’t got enough money’, when the stupid bureaucrats under his command are there wasting our money,” Elliott said.

“Before you start asking for extra money, stop wasting the money you already have.”
