More than 1000 dangerously tired truck drivers were detected on Victorian roads last year, according to shocking figures from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Some breaches were uncovered in logbook compliance checks, while others were discovered in calls to a heavy vehicle reporting line.

Transport Workers Union Victoria and Tasmania branch secretary Mike McNess says commercial pressures are to blame.
