There is going to be a water police blitz in Victoria over the coming days.

Superintendent Wayne Newman, from the Specialist Response Division, said anybody operating a jetski or boat on the water should be expecting to be tested for alcohol and drugs in their system.

Drug detection dogs will also have a presence at boat ramps.

David Kramer, a familiar voice to 3AW listeners and director of the Future Fish Foundation, said it was over the top.

“Sniffer dogs at boat ramps? That’s an overreaction,” he said.

He said he felt sorry for jetski owners.
