Victorians are being urged to leave early this Christmas to ensure they make it to lunch on time.

Chris Miller from the Department of Transport says “a lot of people forget there’s a whole bunch of traffic on Christmas Day because the whole town, the whole state, is doing the same thing at the same time”.

“The traffic volumes are about the same as they are on a normal weekday on Christmas Day, but the peak is different,” he told Jacqui Felgate and Jimmy Bartel, filling in for Ross and Russel.
