The Socceroos back-up goalkeeper says he’s trying to “channel his inner Patty Mills” while on the bench at the World Cup.

Andrew Redmayne, who shot to fame for securing Australia a spot at the tournament with the match-winning penalty save against Peru during qualifying, could be called on again, should Australia and Argentina head to penalties in their knockout Round of 16 clash in the early hours of Sunday morning (6am Melbourne time).

Redmayne told 3AW he’d drawn inspiration from the popular Australian basketballer, who has always been a beloved teammate in the NBA – even when not playing many minutes – due to his enthusiastic support of his teammates.

“I’d like to think I can play that energy role, that motivating role and be Australia’s hype man, if required,” Redmayne told 3AW’s Wide World of Sports.
