The annual Christmas Eve shopping rush is becoming less common, with figures showing consumers are keener than ever to get their present shopping done early.

Paul Zahra, CEO of the Australian Retailers Association, told Ross and Russel the retail sector was bracing for a surge in sales over the next fortnight.

“It is definitely the season to shop early,” he said.
