With the weather warming up, there’s been a spike in snake sightings in Melbourne in recent days.

But Alex Krstic from Wild Pro Wildlife and Pest Control says there aren’t more snakes around, they’re just coming into contact with people more frequently.

“With inundation issues we’ve had with water the snakes coming into contact with people, there’s a higher incidence of course because the snakes are avoiding the water and so are the prey animals, the snakes and mice and so on,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“We have heaps of snakes all over in the CBD — in particular after the flood events along the Yarra.

“There’s no area that’s immune from … native venomous snakes.”
