Former Sydney coach Paul Roos takes aim at critics of Adam Goodes
Melbourne coach Paul Roos has taken aim at a controversial talkback caller during a fierce defence of Adam Goodes on 3AW Drive.
Roos, who coached the retiring Sydney champion for almost a decade, said he was annoyed by the ‘ignorant’ and ‘unfounded’ views many people held about the dual Brownlow medallist.
His comments followed a passionate call from ‘Chris’, who said Goodes was a ‘jerk’ before going on to accuse the former Australian of the Year of being racist.

It left the 2005 premiership coach far from impressed.
‘I’d like to tell you what I think of the bloke who just called,’ Roos said on 3AW.
‘I guess that’s the unfortunate thing for all of us that know Adam really well.
‘He’s just so misrepresented.
‘For people to call him a jerk is completely unfounded and completely ridiculous.
‘And to call him a racist is just extraordinary.’
Roos said he ‘could not speak highly enough’ of the retiring Sydney great.
‘He is one of the absolute nicest people you would ever meet in your life,’ Roos said.
‘He’s incredibly considerate of other people, he’s incredibly proud of where he’s from and incredibly passionate.’
