A deluge hit Lilydale and surrounds at about 4.30pm yesterday, sending cars floating down roads, flooding homes and businesses and felling trees.

A whopping 70 millimetres fell in Lilydale, with most of that falling within an hour, and the SES responded to hundreds of calls for help.

Vicki in Wandin says she “copped it big time”.

“Our road got flooded … the main street of Seville was flooded, there’s lots of businesses there that were underwater.”

In Lilydale, Vanessa’s shop was inundated.

“I got back at 6.15pm and it was nearly underwater, nearly to knee height,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“Everything in the shop was just floating around.”
