Echuca resident says wrong side of levee has been ‘left to drown’
Echuca residents on the ‘wrong’ side of the levee built to protect most of the town from flooding say they’re “devastated” by what’s happened.
Nick Dean says the levee made the flooding in his street “heaps worse”.
“It hit the levee bank and has come in behind us and totally flooded us out this morning. It’s up to the front door, the garage has gone under, it’s all under the house,” he told Neil Mitchell.
“They’ve spent about $2 million on the levee bank to date and everyone on my block, down my street, has just been left to drown.
“You can imagine the anger with council for putting this levee up and throwing us to the wolves.”
Mr Dean says those who’ve chosen to stay and defend their properties aren’t receiving any help from the SES.
“The SES are all on the levee bank but I’m afraid those who decided to stay and defend are left high and dry,” he said.
“It’s miserable here, mate.”
