The senior pastor responsible for the controversial sermon that ultimately led to Andrew Thorburn’s chaotic resignation as Essendon CEO says he would “use different words” today.

Guy Mason said same-sex relationships were sinful and compared abortion to the Holocaust.

“Out of context, it’s sloppy and the analogy is unhelpful – I’d use different words,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“I mean, this is a message from 10 years ago, so it’s very likely I’d use very different words today.”

Mason said the City on a Hill church was not homophobic.

“We’re a very inclusive and diverse church,” he said.
