Malvern East locals are up in arms after a change in Stonnington Council’s street party approval process, which makes their annual Christmas party all but impossible.

The celebration has been a tradition in Wattle Grove for 26 years, but resident Sally Johnstone says the council has made it extremely difficult this year.

“We went on to apply and they’ve put in this step where we actually have to ask all of the neighbors to sign for approval, so we literally have to go house by house,” she told Neil Mitchell.

Ms Johnstone says it’s not clear if street closure for a street party will be accepted if a resident refuses to sign.

“We just want the old process. They used to send out a letter and notify everybody.”
