Australians are being warned about the dangers of dating apps and websites after a survey unearthed staggering results.

The Australian Institute of Criminology surveyed 10,000 people who had used dating apps last year and found three-in-four had experienced online sexual violence and a third had been experienced in-person violence from someone they met on a dating app or website.

Manager with the Australian Institute of Criminology, Sarah Napier, said the findings are “concerning”.

59 per cent of people surveyed also said they’d experienced online sexual harassment, 45 per cent experienced abusive or threatening language on dating apps or websites.

More than a quarter said they’d experienced sexual assault or coercion in person after meeting someone on a dating app or website.
