Hundreds of thousands of people have had to be evacuated from their homes in Vietnam as a powerful typhoon makes landfall.

Typhoon Noru, which left at least eight dead in the Philippines, has hit Vietnam’s central region.

Albury man and 2AY ACE radio employee, Gus MacLeod, arrived in Da Nang just before the typhoon hit.

“Pretty frightening to jump off a plane 24 hours ago, get told you’re going straight to your hotel, bunker in and brace for the biggest storm in 25 years”,” he told Tony Jones.
