‘It’s good he apologised’: Woman and daughter called ‘strippers’ by Billy Brownless
A Melbourne mother who was called a stripper by Billy Brownless as he hosted a junior footy function says it’s good he’s apologised.
The former footballer pointed out ‘Annie’ and her daughter as they walked inside the Glenferrie Hotel and said to the audience ‘here come the strippers’.
Annie told Neil Mitchell they were caught off guard and mortified by the comment.
‘I just about fell over, I was so embarrassed,’ she said.
‘It was just really yuck.’
She has since received some ‘grief’ online after criticising him on Twitter, but said she hoped it would educate others and it was an inappropriate remark.
Later, the footy personality apologised and said he didn’t mean to cause offence.
‘What’s done is done, an apology makes no real difference to us either way,’ Annie said.
‘It’s good that he’s apologised.
‘He’s got daughters himself, it’s good to hear he would be mortified himself if it happened to his own daughter.’
Neil Mitchell said it was ‘certainly a silly thing to do’ and Brownless had made an error.
‘Let’s not overreact to it, I wonder whether anybody really expects Billy Brownless to be a paragon of propriety.’
