Ambulance Victoria CEO Tony Walker has resigned.

He’ll step down in December.

Mr Walker has led Victoria’s Ambulance service for eight years and has been an ambo for 36 years.

The news comes after Mr Walker earlier this year revealed he was battling bowel cancer.

He’s in remission now, but the diagnosis has changed his outlook on life.

“This is an all-consuming job,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Mr Walker says “there’s a lot to be done” within Ambulance Victoria.

“We have a once-in-100-year opportunity to redevelop our health system to be something different into the future,” he said.
