Baby killed in Heathcote
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a baby girl at Heathcote, in central Victoria.
Paramedics were called to a property in Pink Cliffs Road about 2.30pm Saturday afternoon following reports of a baby struggling to breathe.
The three-month-old girl died on Sunday night. Her death is being treated as suspicious.
Homicide Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said the child has suffered injuries.
‘When the child was transported to hospital there was no physical sign of injury,’ he said.
‘The child got critically ill on Saturday afternoon, ambulance was contacted and she was subsequently airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital.’
He said police were yet to receive post-mortem results and the investigation was in its early stages.
‘The parents have been spoken to. Now we are in the early stages of the investigation,’ he said.
‘They present as a young loving couple and we have to look at all of the circumstances.’
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
