Bold drivers are increasingly failing to leave details at the scene of a crash in Melbourne’s east, local traffic cops say.

And Peter and Kate reckon it’s almost un-Australian.

A Nunawading traffic cop told the Leader newspaper it was bad practice, after it was reported in a recent one-week period nine motorists out of 14 fled the scene without exchanging numbers.

RACV general manager of public policy Brian Negus said there wasn’t any new trend, but said there was plenty of anecdotal evidence.

He said it often goes both ways.

‘The fair go principle says you should leave your details apart from which the law says that too,’ he said.

‘The law says basically you should exchange names and addresses, and if there’s no other party there, you are required to leave your details.’
