The federal government has signalled it will not provide further cost of living relief, other than what has already been announced.

Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the Albanese government will deliver its promised cost of living relief which includes overhauling childcare, slashing the price of prescription medicines, making electric vehicles cheaper, and more fee-free TAFE places.

But there are unlikely to be other measures aimed at cutting the cost of living.

“We’re levelling with people about our capacity to do much more than that,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“It will be hard to find room for much more than what we’ve announced already.”

“What we’re trying to do is to make sure wherever we’re giving cost of living relief there’s an economic dividend as well so we’re not adding to those economic pressures.”
