A new survey of school principals has found that there is huge concern over teacher numbers for 2023.

90 per cent of respondents thought the situation was so dire that there was a possibility there wouldn’t be enough teachers for every classroom at the start of next year.

Meredith Peace, Australian Education Union Victorian Branch President, told Tom Elliott the situation will only get worse.

“We know particularly in rural and regional areas of Victoria, they have struggled to get staff in some areas for some length of time,” she said.

“And we’re starting to see those same patterns arise in our metropolitan schools.

“Traditionally school who’ve had no problems getting staff … are now finding it very difficult.”
