An incident captured by VicRoads cameras this morning has prompted Chris Miller from the Department of Transport to share a “critical” message.

On the M80 Ring Road this morning, a woman was seen getting out of her vehicle after a breakdown and stood with her back to traffic travelling at speed.

Mr Miller urged Melburnians not to get out of their vehicle if they break down on a busy road.

“Stay inside your car, keep your seatbelt on, make yourself as visible as possible — so turn every light on,” he said.

“And then call us — 13 11 70 — we’ll dispatch people, we’ll also lower the speeds on the approach so you haven’t got trucks barrelling up behind you at 100km.”
