Study finds one in four Australian students aren’t finishing year 12
Researchers admit they are ‘worried’ by statistics showing one in every four Australian students aren’t completing year 12.
Bronwyn Hinz, Policy Fellow at the Mitchell Institute, confirmed the numbers with Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.
She said while some early leavers went onto to forge successful careers, those numbers were dropping.
‘I think it’s worrying,’ Ms Hinz said on 3AW Drive.
‘The economy has changed from how it was 30 years ago, even 10 years ago.
‘Having that year 12 or equivalent is more important than ever before.
‘There’s not as many job opportunities or further study opportunity for those who don’t have that year 12 ticket.’
She said the consequences weren’t just educational and financial.
