Former West Coast Eagles skipper Chris Judd has responded to Daniel Chick’s allegations the club had a culture of prescription and illicit drug abuse during its premiership season in 2006.

Speaking at 3AW’s annual Grand Final Eve Breakfast, Judd said the timing of the allegations being aired days before the grand final were unfortunate.

He said Chick’s recollection weren’t in line with his.

‘Some of Daniel’s memories of what was going on were very different to my own,’ he said.

‘And in terms of timing, I think that club’s worked so hard to improve the culture and they’ve done a great job.

‘They get to play in a grand final this week, and I certainly thought the timing was unfortunate.’

West Coast has strongly denied the ‘unsubstantiated’ claims made by Chick in the Herald Sun, saying they were ‘offended and extremely disappointed’ with the content, timing and publication of the article.

In a panel discussion with Leigh Matthews and Caroline Wilson at the breakfast, Judd said he had no ill feelings towards his former teammate.

‘Daniel’s been through a lot, he’s been clean for 18 months and that’s really good news,’ he said.

‘I believe that his recollections are very much real to him.

‘I don’t believe he’s made that up and clearly he’s got some unfinished issues with the club, hopefully they can sit down and go through it.’
