Premier addresses IBAC report on Labor’s misuse of taxpayer funds
Unethical and inappropriate behaviour within Labor Party ranks has been outlined in a long-awaited report from the corruption watchdog and ombudsman.
But no charges will be laid.
It follows a near two-year investigation from IBAC into the serious misuse of taxpayer resources for party political work by members of Labor.
The investigation uncovered extensive, egregious misconduct, but could not be proved as criminal.
The report makes 21 recommendations.
Premier Daniel Andrews said he accepted all of those findings and would go “beyond” what had been recommended.
“As leader of the party and as the Premier of our state, I take full responsibility for all of that conduct and I apologise for it,” he said.
The Age’s state political reporter, Sumeyya Ilanbey, said some of the findings were extraordinary.
