The St Kilda marina proposal that’s blindsided locals
St Kilda residents are calling on the council to stop a St Kilda marina redevelopment from going ahead.
But council officers have recommended accepting the plan — which includes a helipad, a private beach, a new restaurant and more retail space — with some caveats.
City of Port Phillip councillor Andrew Bond says there’s an explanation for the helipad.
Currently there’s a helipad at Marina Reserve, but that area is being turned into a dog park, so it’ll need to be relocated.
“Councillors tonight are recommending we cap the usage on that helipad at four take offs and landings per month,” he told Ross and Russel.
Councillor Bond says there’s already a beach behind the marina, which will be more accessible to the public under the proposed changes, which would see up to 30 per cent of it used for private commercial use.
The City of Port Phillip will vote on the proposal tonight.
