The Alfred defers elective surgery again as COVID-19 cases climb
The Alfred Hospital is deferring elective surgery as COVID-19 hospitalisations climb.
In a letter sent to staff, which has been seen by 3AW Mornings, hospital chief executive Andrew Way said The Alfred will “start reinstating the principles and plan that guided our COVID response across the health service during the last wave” later this week.
“This means elective surgery will, again, be deferred. It means that we will, again, limit outpatient appointments,” the letter continues.
“I know you are exhausted and ‘over’ being asked for more. I know this pandemic has asked too much. I know that words of thank you, don’t change the reality of your day. But I am grateful and will put in as many useful supports for you as we can.”
The Alfred says urgent category one and some high-level category two surgery will still go ahead as scheduled.
From tomorrow, all visitors to The Alfred Hospital will be required to wear N95 masks.
Non-clinical hospital workers who can work from home are asked to consult their manager about doing so.
