The fashion faux pas that could have cost a Carlton fan favourite his career!
Ang Christou says his glittering Carlton career could have easily been over before it even began.
He was 18 and had just finished playing for Carlton’s under-19 side at Victoria Park.
Still an “avid” Collingwood fan at the time, Christou was wearing a black and white jumper under his Carlton blazer.
“The audacity!” Christou said on 3AW’s Footy: Then and Now podcast with a laugh.
“All the boys told me I was nuts.”
Things only escalated once Christou took the blazer off, exposing the guernsey of the club’s arch-enemy.
It quickly caught the eye of his coach, Ross Henshaw.
He was summoned immediately.
“If you ever wear that again, you’ll never, ever, ever, play for this club,” Christou says he was told by Henshaw.
