Man left stranded on plane after Qantas forgets his wheelchair
A man who was left stranded in his seat on a plane for some time after it landed in Melbourne because Qantas had forgotten his wheelchair says the airline needs better processes in place.
Glen Wood got in touch with Neil Mitchell about the situation he was confronted with after returning from a trip to Cairns on Sunday night.
“I was just waiting and waiting,” he said.
“The cleaners came through and started cleaning the plane.”
Glen, who had flown business class, was then approached by staff, who said his wheelchair had not arrived with him.
“Nobody should be treated better than any person, but we are talking about an extension of my independence and life,” he said.
“It’s not a matter of swinging by Kmart and grabbing a shaver and pair of jocks because my baggage has gone missing.”

Qantas told 3AW resourcing continued to be a challenge for the industry.
“Our ground handling suppliers continue to increase their workforce numbers and resourcing has improved significantly since the holiday peak in April,” a spokesperson said.
“While there’s still a lot more to be done to improve our operational performance, the rate of mishandled baggage has improved in recent months.”
