‘Stop calling it the road toll’: Top roads cop Doug Fryer warns of Melbourne Cup blitz
Stop calling it the ‘road toll’.
That’s the message from Victoria’s top roads cop as he attempts to stop the increasing carnage on our roads.
‘Toll, to me, is a small cost that pay to use something,’ said Asst. Commmisioner Doug Fryer, who told Neil Mitchell he wants to see less than 200 people killed per year by 2020.
Meanwhile, Mr Fryer said police will be out in force in a bid to stop the carnage over the Melbourne Cup long weekend.
He revealed there has been:
- 25 road deaths on the long weekend since 2010
- 80 road injuries just last year
