PETA is campaigning to change the name of this Victorian street
Animal rights activists are campaigning to change the name of a street in Aintree, near Melton.
PETA has contacted City of Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik calling for Wool Street be renamed Plant Wool Street.
PETA campaigns and communication manager Angela Banovic says the group hopes the name change “will inspire people to buy kinder and more environmentally-friendly wool alternatives”.
“Sheep are gentle prey animals who are petrified of even being held down, yet they endure vicious beatings, bloody wounds and broken limbs in the hideously cruel wool industry,” she told Dee Dee.
“Many people believe that shearing sheep helps animals who might otherwise be burdened by too much wool, but without human interference and selective breeding, sheep grow just enough wool to protect them from the temperature extremes.”
PETA has not yet received a response from the City of Melton regarding its request.
