Caroline Wilson explains why the AFL’s COVID crowd argument doesn’t wash
Caroline Wilson says the AFL’s argument COVID is still impacting crowds doesn’t wash.
The issue has been hotly debated in recent weeks, with Richmond recording their lowest home MCG crowd (COVID-impacted seasons excluded) since 2010 on Thursday night.
The AFL has said fans are still easing their way back into activities in a post-COVID world.
“I went to the movies yesterday to see Top Gun – you couldn’t get a seat – the cinema was bursting and it’s happening at cinemas around Melbourne,” Caroline Wilson said.
“There have been record crowds at Tullamarine Airport – pre-pandemic numbers and biggest they’ve ever seen on the long weekend of people getting away and coming home.
“You can’t get a seat at any of the best restaurants in town for a month, six weeks out, so why is football suffering with attendances? And not restaurants, not cinemas, not travel.”
