Racing Victoria boss Bernard Saundry says officials will ‘look’ at increasing security over the Spring Carnival following Monday’s shooting at the house of chief steward Terry Bailey.

Investigations continue into the attack on Bailey’s home that has sent shockwaves through the racing community.

Mr Saundry sought to calm racegoers about any possible danger over the carnival, but admitted officials would review security measures just in case.

‘We’re looking at all of that now,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘Clearly the security around our feature meetings in the metropolitan area is something the clubs do very well, not just for staff but patrons as well.

‘We’re pretty comfortable with where that’s at.’

The chief executive said this was likely to be an isolated incident.

‘From time to time we have a hiccup, this is one which we will fix,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

Neil Mitchell pointed out it was a ‘pretty serious hiccup’ to have.

‘If that happened to the Victorian Police force, all hell would break loose,’ he said.
